THE PLAYER
NAME: Kira
AGE: 24
AIM: peacekeeperdl
E-MAIL: penofdl@gmail.com
TIMEZONE: EST

CHARACTERS PLAYED: Matt Parkman ([info]doesntreadmuch)

THE CHARACTER
FULL NAME: Gabriel "Sylar" Gray [Nathan Petrelli]
SERIES/FANDOM: Heroes
AGE: 32 [43]
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: Evolved Human
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
ALIGNMENT: Neutral

PERSONALITY: Gabriel is an intriguing dichotomy of an individual. At the base, he's sweet, considerate, humble, and caring, but years of repressing anger and hostility towards the world, those around him, and the way that he has been treated by both has created a much darker side to his personality that can emerge, often without warning, the instant that anything is perceived to be heading in a direction that is the opposite of what he wants it to be. These bleak aspects of himself -- his temper, sense of betrayal, cold and detached logic, and even his own self-loathing -- that were nurtured by his repression have become the things which control his actions, and when he allows them to run unchecked, the results can be disastrous.

He has been making his best attempts to balm the wounds that exacerbate the darker aspects of himself since his time at the Company, but over twenty-fives years of anger is a difficult thing to remove from an individual's consciousness. While currently pressed back into the deep confines of his awareness, dammed back there with sheer willpower, Gabriel still has issues with keeping his temper and behavior in check when he feels that control of a situation is out of his hands. This is easily solved by striving to separate himself from matters that aren't able to be perfectly understood and controlled, but life doesn't work like that. Luckily, he's starting to get a grip on being able to calm himself down before any real damage is done in those moments when his darker side flares. He is better than people think he is even when he has absolutely no qualms about taking care of a situation in a way that would be considered immoral. Or at least, amoral.

With his own memories replaced with Nathan's, however, Sylar's personality has been replaced by Nathan's rather more bombastic personality. Playful, outgoing, and happily a people person, Nathan is as much an antithesis to Sylar that there could possibly by on the outside, but on the inside, much of the worries, terrors, tremors, and fears are similar. While the circumstances of the development of them are far radical, Sylar as Nathan is just as afraid of not being good enough or living up to parental expectations. Now, it's just a different mother and a different specter of a father. As Nathan, however, he doesn't show his emotions as easily as he did as Gabriel, wearing them out on his sleeve when he isn't able to cover them up. Instead, Nathan's political mask is in place to shield his thoughts and worries from view.

It doesn't help that he feels detached from himself, the memories and experiences in his mind feeling more like dreams than things that happened to him. He's so far attributed these feelings to the stress of the last few months. But he's starting to get less and less sure that that is the issue.

ABILITIES: Gabriel has the ability of Intuitive Aptitude which allows him to understand the structure and operation of complex systems without special education or training. Gabriel's ability is constantly active allowing him to analyze any system that he encounters. These systems include but are not necessarily limited to patterns of human behavior and interaction and mechanical and organic structures.

His ability also gives him the capability to take powers from other evolved humans and incorporate those abilities into his own biological make-up. Originally he believed that taking these abilities required him to cut into an individual's head and examine his or her brain, but Arthur Petrelli explained to him that he didn't necessarily need to kill people in order to acquire an ability. His ability works on understanding, and an empathic understanding of the individual in question would allow him to absorb their ability in the same way that killing them would. Using his ability like this, though, takes far more work and effort than killing an individual does in order to achieve the same result.

Gabriel has several issues which stem from the fact that his ability comes saddled with a hunger for knowledge, a desire that makes him want to know anything and everything that there possibly is to know. Being an amoral entity, this hunger is more than willing and able to force him to the worst extremes to satisfy it. When it came to other evolved humans, since the details of their abilities remains hidden in their brains just beyond what his eyes are able to discern, his ability makes him want to "take them apart" and get a closer look. This part of his ability is has always proved extremely difficult to reign in even when attempted, and while he has gotten close to doing so each time that he has sincerely tried to, he no longer feels that there is any point to fighting the way that he was made. He is nothing more than a monster, and that is the only way that people see him. Why should he try to be anything different?

The [known] Abilities that he has absorbed in the original manner are:
  • Telekinesis from Brian Davis
  • Shattering from Trevor Zeitlan (unable to consciously access)
  • Cryokinesis from James Walker (unable to consciously access)
  • Enhanced Memory from Charlie Andrews (unable to consciously access)
  • Melting from Zane Taylor (unable to consciously access)
  • Enhanced Hearing from Dale Smithers (unable to consciously access)
  • Precognitive Painting from Isaac Mendez (unable to consciously access)
  • Induced Radioactivity from Ted Sprague (unable to consciously access)
  • Rapid Cellular Regeneration from Claire Bennet
  • Alchemy from Bob Bishop
  • Clairsentience from Bridget Bailey
  • Sound Manipulation from Jesse Murphy
  • Lie Detection from Sue Landers
  • Imprinting from Joe Macon
  • Shapeshifting from James Martin
  • Disintegration from Tom Miller

The Abilities that he has absorbed via empathy are:
  • Electric Manipulation from Elle Bishop
  • Flight from Nathan Petrelli

Since being infected with the Shanti Virus, Gabriel has been unable to consciously use any of the abilities that he acquired before the infection successfully with the exception of his Telekinesis.

WEAKNESSES: Gabriel is easily exploitable and manipulated, though that has become less and less so with the last two years. His tenuous mental state, however, exacerbates his vulnerability. He has already spent time where he was unsure of who he was entirely and is now under the presumption that he is someone else entirely. Until he is back in position of his own mind, he is vulnerable to any persuasion that people may place on him.

CANON POINT: Shadowboxing (Episode 4x09)

HOW HAS YOUR CHARACTER ENDED UP IN THE SAFE ZONE: Flying to NY and being sent through registration

WHAT HAS YOUR CHARACTER BEEN DOING IN THE TWO MONTHS SINCE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE BEGAN: Nathan doesn't remember where he's been. The last two plus months are a complete blank to him. All he knows is that he woke up one morning in a carnival and in the midst of his confusion did the only thing that he knew to do: go home. Of course, it didn't help that when he reached New York after flying for God only knows how long from every direction until he found the proper landmarks to guide him that he found his family home in ruins, Peter's apartment abandoned, and was eventually picked up by a team of people patrolling the streets and taken to a registration center in order to get checked out and officially added to the registry of the Safe Zone.

The truth is that the two months that Nathan was gone, he wasn't Nathan. Instead, he was his true self, Gabriel Gray, but without all of the memories that made him into that individual. He'd spent those months at the Sullivan Brothers Carnival, a group that mostly set themselves apart from the government regulated Safe Zone and protected themselves from the infection and the invaders. With the capabilities of a few well skilled healers and more fighters than most other places, the carnival was able to put up a decent defense all on its own, and Gabriel had been helping to protect them new family that he found in this place. That is...until the memories that had been forced into his mind by Matt Parkman took over, and he was Nathan Petrelli again with no memory of why he was where he was and with only the thought of finding his family on his mind.
